Travelling with Dek Leonk
What exactly do you do?
We design your trip: the route, the day-by-day plan and, if you like, the places to stay. For that you pay a fixed fee of €250 to €500. If you only want a reliable driver, we put you in touch with Dek Leonk for free.
Why don't I pay you for the trip?
Because we want your money to end up with the people in Bali. You pay Dek Leonk, the homestays and the guides directly. We only earn from your trip plan.
Who is responsible for the trip itself?
The partners you make the arrangement with: Dek Leonk for the transport, the accommodations for your stay. We are responsible for our advice, and we only recommend people we know personally.
What is the difference between the three options?
With Trip plan you get the route and the day-by-day plan, and you book yourself. With Trip plan with stays we also pick out two or three places to stay for you in each location. With All arranged we reserve everything in your name; you pay the partners yourself.
How soon do I get my trip plan?
Within five working days of the intake call. One round of changes is part of it.
What if I get the plan and then don't go?
The plan is yours. The fee is for the work we have done, so you don't get it back once the plan has been delivered. If you cancel after the intake but before delivery, you get half of it back.
Who drives during the trip?
Dek Leonk himself. If he is not available on a given day, a colleague he knows personally drives, and you hear about it in advance.
Which languages does Dek Leonk speak?
English, Indonesian and Balinese. You can chat with Michèle in Dutch.
How far ahead should I plan?
For July, August and the Christmas holidays, ideally three to six months ahead, because the good small places to stay fill up fast. Outside those periods a few weeks is usually enough.
Do you get commission from hotels or Dek Leonk?
No. That keeps our advice independent, and they get the full price.
Do you arrange flights too?
No. You book those yourself; that way you also have the protection of your airline or booking site.
Bali
Hasn't Bali become far too busy?
In the south and southwest, yes: Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu and parts of Uluwatu. There you are often stuck in traffic and a lot is being built. The east, the north and the mountains are still quiet and authentic. That is where our trips focus.
When is the best time to go?
April to October is dry. May, June and September are the nicest: dry and less busy. See Best time to visit.
Is Bali safe?
Yes. The biggest risks are the traffic, the sea and an upset stomach. See Is Bali safe?
Do I need a visa?
Yes, a visa on arrival or an e-VOA bought in advance, plus the tourist levy. See Visa and tourist levy.
Can I rent a scooter?
Yes, with a motorcycle licence and an international driving permit with category A. Without those papers your insurance often covers nothing. See Scooter rental.
Is Bali suitable for children?
Very much so. The Balinese love children. Take a look at the Bali with kids trip.
What should I know about visiting temples?
Wear a sarong and sash, and cover your shoulders. See Visiting temples.
Emergencies
What are the emergency numbers?
112 for all emergencies, 110 for the police, 118 or 119 for an ambulance. The Dutch and Belgian embassies are in Jakarta. When you travel with Dek Leonk, call him first; he knows where the nearest clinic is.

Shall we think up your trip together?
Book a free 15-minute introduction, or send a message with when you want to go and what you are looking for. You are not committed to anything.
You chat with Michèle (Dutch or English) or with Dek Leonk (English). Real people, not a chatbot. During the day in Europe you usually get an answer within a few hours.
