Round trip
Bali with kids: two weeks of short drives and plenty of pool time
Short drives, places to stay with a pool and outings for the whole family. Two weeks in Bali with your own driver, from Sanur via Ubud to Amed.

- Duration
- 14 days, 13 nights
- Group
- Families up to 6 people
- Start
- At the airport
- Price
- Personal trip plan from €250
Highlights
- A gentle start in Sanur, on a beach without big waves
- Planting rice with a farmer and seeing the ducks in the sawah
- A cooking class with a family, where the children join in
- Four days in Amed, snorkelling from the beach
- A pool everywhere you stay, and no packing every day
With children you mainly want two things: not too long in the car and not a new bed every day. This route does both. You start in Sanur to recover from the flight, then head for the rice fields and the east coast, and every place has a pool. Dek Leonk drives a car with room for the whole family, and arranges child seats if you let him know in advance.
Day by day
Days 1–3: Sanur
Half an hour from the airport. There's a reef in front of the beach, so the water is calm. A good place to get used to the time difference.
Days 4–7: Ubud
An hour's drive. A villa or hotel with a pool just outside the centre. You plant rice with a farmer, go to the cooking class with a family and watch a Legong dance in the evening.
Days 8–9: Sidemen
Just over an hour's drive. Two days among the rice fields, with a short walk that children can easily manage.
Days 10–13: Amed
An hour and a half's drive, with a stop to see the fish in the ponds at Tirta Gangga. Four days of snorkelling, playing on the beach and a short boat trip.
Day 14: back to the airport
The only long drive: two and a half to three hours, with a stop on the way. Dek Leonk allows plenty of time, so you don't have to rush.
What you pay locally
Estimate for two adults and two children: about €1,350–2,270 in total. Dek Leonk as your driver on the days you need him (about 8 days), about €400–520, child seats on request; thirteen nights in family rooms or villas with a pool, about €800–1,500; cooking class, rice planting and snorkelling, about €150–250. You pay all of it directly to Dek Leonk and the places you stay. Flights, meals, the tourist levy (children pay it too) and travel insurance are extra.
An indication. You pay this directly to Dek Leonk and the accommodation, not to us.
How to make this trip
Who it is for
Families with children aged roughly 4 to 16. It also works with a baby or toddler; then we make the route shorter.
Questions about this trip
Is Bali suitable for children?
Yes. Balinese people love children and you're made welcome everywhere. Watch out for the sun, mosquitoes and tap water; there's more under Food and drink and Safety.
Can the children ride on the back of a scooter?
We advise against it. The car with Dek Leonk is safer, and simply more comfortable.
What if a child gets ill?
Dek Leonk knows where the nearest clinic is and drives you there. Ubud and the south have international hospitals.
