- Duration
- About 5 hours, morning and lunch
- Group
- 2 to 8 people
- Start
- A village near Ubud or Sidemen
- Price
- Price on request, paid directly to the family
Highlights
- The market with Dek Leonk: kemiri nuts, turmeric, lemongrass
- Making basa genep, the spice paste behind almost every Balinese dish
- Cooking sate lilit and lawar in a family kitchen
- Sitting down to eat with the family
You start the morning at the market, where Dek Leonk explains what you're looking at: kemiri nuts (candlenuts), turmeric, lemongrass, small shallots. Then you cook in the kitchen of a family he knows. You make basa genep, the spice paste behind almost every Balinese dish, and use it for a few dishes such as sate lilit and lawar. It ends at the table, with the family. Vegetarian, vegan or dairy-free is fine; just let us know in advance.
